Americans are deeply concerned about the cost of health care, and their top priority for lawmakers is to lower what they spend on it.
The Kaiser Family Foundation recently released the results of two polls it conducted over the past few months regarding the health care worries of Americans, including the exorbitant cost of prescription drugs.
The main poll findings include:
43 percent of adults with health insurance say they have difficulty affording their deductible, while one third of those adults have issues affording their premium
29 percent of Americans have trouble paying medical bills (of those, 73% reported cutting spend on clothing, food, or household items)
21 percent of Americans have not filled a prescription for a medication due to the cost

According to the recent polls, most Americans feel that lowering health care costs for individuals should be at the top of the list for the federal lawmakers. Furthermore, greater than half of those surveyed said that prescription drug prices should be lowered considerably. We agree!
Problems Paying Medical Bills

Of those who experienced problems paying medical bills, most reported engaging in certain activities to pay off those bills. These activities include:
Americans Put Off Medical Care Due to Cost
Americans have also found that putting off medical care is a way to “save” on health care costs. Many have skipped some sort of care in the past year. Dental care topped the list at 32 percent – many US adults skipped their regular dental cleanings and checkups. 27 percent put off or postponed needed health care, while 23 percent reported skipping a recommended medical test or treatment. About 1 in 5 shared that they did not fill a prescription for a medication simply due to the cost, and 16 percent said they cut pills in half or skipped doses of medicine.
