We are so thankful and humbled to announce that we will be working with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano and the Redwood Empire Food Bank fight hunger in California!
With a food insecurity rate of 12.5%, there are approximately 4.9 million Californians struggling with food insecurity. It’s bad enough to struggle with food insecurity, but add that an average of 66% of our food insecure residents must make the choice between with affording food or medicine / medical care, and you have a financial hill that is impossible for many to climb.
All too often, people who face illness are often faced with a difficult choice: either to suffer and perhaps die without treatment, or to seek treatment and push their family into poverty. This notion is all too common, and is evident in the fact that medical bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy in this country.
While we can’t help every medical need, we can help find your medication cheaper. Nationally, Good Neighbor Rx users save an average of 83% or $91 per prescription filled. It is our hope that savings like this, helps families to better afford the things that need.
We are hopeful that partnerships like this are a small step in addressing the shared need of underrepresented populations in this country. For those that find themselves in the situation struggling to choose between food or medication just know that you are not alone. There are millions of people, and countless organizations who want to fight this fight with you.
